Nursing Assistant Certificate

The Nursing Assistant Certificate provides a foundation in healthcare careers, soft skills, communication, anatomy, and physiology.

Students will develop basic nursing skills:

  • Activities of daily living
  • Vital signs
  • Measuring and recording patient intake/output
  • Safety measures

Varied instructional methods include:

  • Classroom
  • Online/Hybrid
  • Simulation/Virtual Reality
  • Clinical rotations

Special Requirements:

  • Students must receive a grade of “C” or better on all Nursing Assistant certificate courses. Students must pass a comprehensive competency-based skills examination to graduate from the program. Students may not repeat Nursing Assistant certificate courses more than once, nor may they progress to the next semester until that course is passed. Students may repeat only two Nursing Assistant courses.
  • Students are required to purchase uniform, name tag and other supplies needed for lab/clinical.
  • Students will rotate through extended care facilities, hospitals, and clinics in the MTC service area for practical experience as Nursing Assistant students. Students must comply with regulations required by off-campus clinical sites, which will include background checks and drug screenings.

The Nursing Assistant Certificate is the foundation of stackable, short-term, entry-level certificates in MTC's Pre-Healthcare academic program. Students must successfully pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination (NNAAP), be listed on the SC Nurse Aid Registry, and complete registration with the state in order to work in South Carolina.

Phlebotomy Certificate

The Phlebotomy Certificate allows students to develop the basic skills necessary to perform phlebotomy procedures utilized in hospital settings, clinical facilities, and physicians' offices.

Students will be required to comply with regulations required by off-campus clinical sites, which might include finger printing, background checks and drug screenings.

Upon completion of the Phlebotomy certificate, the student will be eligible to take a nationally recognized certification exam. Employment opportunities for phlebotomists in South Carolina include positions in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, and doctors' offices. 

Cardiac Care Technician

The Cardiac Care Technician Certificate provides a foundation in healthcare careers, communication, soft skills, computers, and anatomy and physiology.

  • Recognize cardiac dysrhythmia

Students must pass a comprehensive competency-based skills examination to graduate from the program. Students may not repeat certificate courses more than once, nor may they progress to the next semester until that course is passed. Students may repeat only two certificate courses.
  • Students are required to purchase uniform, name tag, and other supplies needed for lab/clinical.
  • Students will rotate through hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories and clinics in the MTC service area for practical experience in ECG and cardiac monitoring. Students will be required to comply with regulations required by off-campus clinical sites, which might include finger printing, background checks and drug screenings.
